EUROPEAN 600 SUPERSTOCK CHAMPIONSHIP

Eurospeedway Lausitz (Germany), Sunday 9 September 2007 : Niccolò Canepa (Ducati Xerox Junior Team) produced a superb performance on the new Ducati 1098S machine at the EuroSpeedway today, the Italian picking up an important second place in the championship run-in. Team-mate Brendan Roberts was not so lucky, the Australian finishing sixteenth after a move by another rider that cost him a good result.

Niccolò was always in the leading positions right from the start, controlling the battle between front-runners Van Keymeulen and Corti. The young Italian’s last lap was perfect as he dived past Corti on the inside to take the runner-up slot and move closer to the top in the points table.

NICCOLO’ CANEPA – “This was a really tough race because we were losing something in acceleration and I couldn’t stay in the other guys’ slipstream on the straights. I tried to preserve my tyres, hoping to do something in the last couple of laps. On the last lap Corti made a small mistake and I passed him. This second place is worth its weight in gold and I’m still in with a great chance of fighting for the title!”

Things didn’t go so well for Brendan Roberts who slipped down at the start. The Australian was bottled in for five laps and when he had made up several positions, he had to overshoot a corner because of a reckless move by another rider. Roberts returned to the track way down the field and just failed to get into the points.

BRENDAN ROBERTS – “The week-end took a turn for the worse with all the rain that fell yesterday. I had to start from the second row and was caught up in the group going into the first corner. I was a bit down on acceleration, like Niccolò, but the new bike is perfect in the twisty bits and I was able to get back up the field. Unfortunately another rider I was overtaking moved over at the last minute and I had to go straight on. My race ended there.”
