FIM SUPERSTOCK 1000 CUP - BRANDS HATCH
Brands Hatch (UK), Sunday 5 August 2007 : Niccolò Canepa scored another superb victory for the new Ducati 1098 S at Brands Hatch in front of a massive 126,000 strong crowd. This was the second win of the year for Canepa and the 1098 S following the opening round victory at Donington. Ducati Xerox Junior Team celebrations were completed by a fifth place for Brendan Roberts.
Canepa easily administered the early stages of the race and then pounced on poleman Claudio Corti. He attacked on lap 4 at Druids, pulled away and took the chequered flag with a gap of over two seconds on runner-up Simeon.
NICCOLO’ CANEPA – “It was a great race because this track is fantastic and all the team worked perfectly. We knew we were strong today and I thought we could take the win. I let Corti go at the start to see what sort of pace he could run and then I decided to pass him so as not to get caught up in the group at the end of the race. I kept everything under control, and slowed down at the end just to preserve my tyres which in any case were excellent today. I dedicate this win to my father, it was truly a special joy today.â€
Brendan Roberts got a good start and was in the front-running group for several laps. From the mid-point onwards his tyres went off and he couldn’t keep the same pace but he did manage to get the best of the battle with Badovini and Dionisi.
BRENDAN ROBERTS – “I made a good start and was right there in the leading group but I was pushing hard, in particular coming out of the curves, and probably ruined the tyres. I had no grip from half-way through the race. I couldn’t manage to fight for the podium but I am quite satisfied because I made up some points after the crash in Brno .â€
