FIM SUPERSTOCK 1000 CUP : Misano
Misano World Circuit (Italy), Sunday 17 June 2007 : Niccolò Canepa (Ducati Xerox Junior Team) could only finish fifth overall on the Ducati 1098 S in round 8 of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, which was held over two parts. Team-mate Brendan Roberts finished tenth.
Canepa got off to a good start but the red flags, which came out on lap 3 after another rider had dropped oil on the track, put an end to his recovery. On the restart the Italian was unable to get away from the group of riders battling behind the leaders and a slight drop in engine performance towards the end meant that he had to settle for fifth overall.
NICCOLO’ CANEPA – “After the warm-up I was really happy because we found an excellent set-up. I got a good start and began to chase down the leaders Baiocco and Simeon. The red flags put paid to that and on the restart I got caught up in the following group. I pushed hard but it wasn’t possible to catch Dionisi and pass Corti. I finished fifth, a result that still leaves me in with a chance to fight for the title.â€
It was a difficult race for Brendan Roberts who admitted that he was unable to get to grips with the Misano track. The double start made things even more difficult and it was an unfortunate weekend for the winner of the previous round.
BRENDAN ROBERTS – “I didn’t have a very good weekend. The bike was moving around too much and probably the heat didn’t help either but to be honest I wasn’t able to get to grips with this track. Things went worse after the restart and at the end of the race the bike was even more difficult to ride. Now we’ve got a month before Brno , hopefully I can get back to my true form.â€
