Monza ( Italy ), Sunday 13 May 2007
The fourth round of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup saw both riders of the Ducati Xerox Junior Team score points. The brand-new Ducati 1098 S machines of Niccolò Canepa and Brendan Roberts finished tenth and fifteenth overall and the Italian consolidates his third place in the table, just three behind championship leader Baiocco.
Canepa and Roberts lapped in tandem for the early part of the race but were outpaced by the leading group. From lap 5 onwards the Australian was unable to push hard due to the pain in his wrist and ended in fifteenth position. Niccolò battled to the flag with Mahr and Dell’Omo but just lost out by a fraction.
Niccolò Canepa
“Our bike was a bit down on acceleration and top speed so I couldn’t recover much. We knew that it was going to be difficult here and so it was. We’ve improved the set-up but today I had a couple of hairy moments and I decided to settle for the position. I’m not very satisfied but these are precious points for the championship battle.â€
Brendan Roberts
“Unfortunately there’s not much to say because the condition of my wrist is not improving much. I started well but the guys ahead were going at a really fast pace. I tried to save my energy but from half-way through I couldn’t feel my hand any more. The last lap was terrible and I just managed to avoid the big crash at the chicane to take one pointâ€.
