Assen (Netherlands), Sunday 29 April 2007

Niccolò Canepa held on to his lead in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup with a sixth place at Assen on the brand-new Ducati 1098 S. Brendan Roberts made his racing debut in the championship after his recent injury with an encouraging seventh place.

The team radically changed the set-up of Canepa’s 1098 between the warm-up and the race to try and improve the feeling but the young Italian was unable to get any higher than sixth after a fruitless pursuit of the leaders.

NICCOLO’ CANEPA – “Last night I was really worried because the bike set-up was far from perfect. We made a big change this morning but things weren’t much better in the race. The guys up front were running at an incredible pace and after a few hairy moments I settled for sixth to get some points in the championship. I’m still in the lead but not by much and in a couple of weeks time we’ve got Monza , which should be favourable for us”.

Brendan at Assen 07Brendan Roberts had an encouraging race at Assen despite the injury to his right wrist. The young Australian got off to a bad start but then worked his way up to sixth position from eleventh at the chequered flag.

BRENDAN ROBERTS – “I rushed off to the Clinica Mobile immediately after finishing the race because the pain in my wrist in the last few laps was just too much. I got a really bad start and was swallowed up by the field at the first corner. After Badovini and Aitchison crashed I managed to catch Simeon and Canepa, and then Xavier. Niccolò was really riding well and it would have been tough to pass him. I am pleased about today but I now really want to get on the podium at Monza .”
